Shivamogga District Farmers Cooperative Forum has announced a mass protest on September 3 demanding the withdrawal of the Kasturi Rangan report.
According to the report, a protest padayatra will begin at Avinahalli at 9:00 AM and proceed towards Sagar. A large public meeting is planned at Gandhi Maidan, followed by submission of a memorandum to the Central and Karnataka Governments through the Sub-Divisional Magistrate's office.
The Forum has raised concerns about villages proposed to be included within the Ecologically Sensitive Area and the possible impact on farmers and rural communities.
The Forum has also urged farmers to submit their objections to the 7th Draft ESA Notification before the September 25 deadline.
The organisers have stated that the protest is being held across party lines and called for local people's views to be considered before implementing the proposed recommendations.
